Final week

Image
As I wrapped up my final week of my senior project(s), I found myself looking forward to the end, but also wishing I had longer. These four week have passed me by so quickly! I enjoyed the busyness, even though it was stressful at times. I came into this project with the goal of walking everyday for a month, but ended up doing a little internship, working on a farm, and walking. Starting with Glimmer, I appreciated being thrown into this role of getting to design whatever I want for an organization and topic I am really interested in. It made me nervous having so much freedom, but in the end I think that creative liberty was really special. This internship helped me with my time management, working with new people, and taking more creative risks.  I feel so so thankful I got the opportunity to work on a local Tea farm for a little bit. I appreciated the beauty of being on a farm and learning the mechanics behind tea farming and what it takes to run one. Theres so much more wo...

Week 3

This week the two phone cases I designed came in the mail! We were super happy with how they turned out, but my boss thought there were not enough queer related stickers on the case, so I started over (which took me so long, but was very worth it) and now I think we finally have a done case, so yay! Heres a picture of the 1st draft of the physical case. So although it was a little frustrating, it taught me that everything can be improved or changed and its important to keep an open mind when it comes to creating things like this. This week I also worked on making phone case charms. These have been such a hassle to make because they are super tedious and can get messed up easily if I add too many beads or tie my knot wrong. Im excited to continue working on them though since they are kind of a fun task. I am very satisfied with how I have improved since last week! For this weeks walking and tea farm work, I was super motivated which surprised me. I figured that because of the heat ...

Senior Project week 2

For the 2nd week of senior projects, there were many happy, challenging, and funny moments. For my work with Glimmer, I designed a phone case that will (hopefully) be put on the websites shop which is super exciting. While I was making designs for the cases, I found myself constantly feeling challenged and unhappy with the work I was creating, but when I finally landed on a piece that looked good, I was so incredibly happy and satisfied. Grace, my boss, bought two of the phone cases I made and we will get to see how good the quality and resolution is before we decide to fully sell them.  As for my walking, the weather this week was pretty awful and wet. This definitely had me feeling much less motivated to put in the time and effort of walking everyday since it was not very enjoyable. I did not quit though! I took my dogs on two of the lengthy neighborhood walks, and did the other 3 solo. Doing my solo walks absolutely goes by faster since I just listen to music and am able t...

Senior Project (week 1)

Image
My initial pitch for my senior project was to spend 4 weeks walking 4 quadrants of Portland (NW, SW, SE, etc). For this first week of projects, I hiked and took neighborhood walks and incorporated mindfulness practices towards the end of my walks. I have really enjoyed these strolls and hikes through the NW and SW neighborhoods, but I have realized how I've overbooked myself a bit since I am also currently an intern at a start up called Glimmer. Glimmer helps queer people find queer affirming mental health professionals. At this internship, I work on finding queer based news, music, etc as well as I am working on designing merchandise. I go in once a week for a 2 hour meeting/work session and then I work remotely the rest of the days. Its a super great opportunity and now I look forward to splitting my time this month between walking and working with Glimmer.
