Final week

As I wrapped up my final week of my senior project(s), I found myself looking forward to the end, but also wishing I had longer. These four week have passed me by so quickly! I enjoyed the busyness, even though it was stressful at times. I came into this project with the goal of walking everyday for a month, but ended up doing a little internship, working on a farm, and walking. Starting with Glimmer, I appreciated being thrown into this role of getting to design whatever I want for an organization and topic I am really interested in. It made me nervous having so much freedom, but in the end I think that creative liberty was really special. This internship helped me with my time management, working with new people, and taking more creative risks.

I feel so so thankful I got the opportunity to work on a local Tea farm for a little bit. I appreciated the beauty of being on a farm and learning the mechanics behind tea farming and what it takes to run one. Theres so much more work that goes into it than I initially thought. I mentioned this in my prior blog post, but doing physical labor like weeding, packaging, etc. really made me realize how privileged I am to do that kind of work just for fun and on the side. This week we weeded some really mean, gnarly thistles and then we also got to package up dried loose tea. Thank you Hannah for bringing me along to the farm!

As for walking, this was always the easiest, least taxing activity. Getting to spend an hour or so a day walking through neighborhoods or going on hikes was a really great way to decompress. I found myself having a couple favorite certain walking routes which was nice. My all time favorite was the Fairmount Loop. Before this month I would go on walks frequently, but not everyday, so I enjoyed having this extra push to get myself outside and moving more everyday. Even in the rain or shine.

I would recommend any of these senior projects to someone else. I think the walking aspect is a good addition to any other project as well since that, realistically is not something that can take up 5 hours of your life every single day. So splitting the time up with something else is really good! All three were enjoyable to and taught me something valuable. They bring on discipline, creativity, new knowledge, and so much more!

  1. Thank you for this thoughtful and enjoyable reflection, Ayla. I loved the mix of activities you ended up doing to spend your time. You sure kept yourself busy! Now that you are done with your senior project, what did you learn about yourself and/or your preferences and skills that you think you will take with you into the future?
