This week the two phone cases I designed came in the mail! We were super happy with how they turned out, but my boss thought there were not enough queer related stickers on the case, so I started over (which took me so long, but was very worth it) and now I think we finally have a done case, so yay! Heres a picture of the 1st draft of the physical case. So although it was a little frustrating, it taught me that everything can be improved or changed and its important to keep an open mind when it comes to creating things like this. This week I also worked on making phone case charms. These have been such a hassle to make because they are super tedious and can get messed up easily if I add too many beads or tie my knot wrong. Im excited to continue working on them though since they are kind of a fun task. I am very satisfied with how I have improved since last week!

For this weeks walking and tea farm work, I was super motivated which surprised me. I figured that because of the heat I would feel pretty lethargic and tired, but the sun felt really great and energizing. I found myself going on 45 min walks about twice a day. A walk I did a couple times was the Fairmount loop which is a really pretty quiet street down a little ways from my house and I also walked near Council Crest a few times as well. I listened to a lot of Phoebe Bridgers on my walks:p
At the tea farm, we did some more weeding in the hot sun. I came across a little ground nest with two baby birds in it and it REALLY freaked me out for a little there, but I saw the mother bird come by a little later and felt so relived. We get to use these kind of giant sickle like things that help us wack all of the weeds and unwanted grass out. I often prefer to use my hands though because I keep using my huge muscles a little too much and end up hitting my shins or hands with this sharp object which just hurts...a lot. I got to meet a couple more new people and learn some more about tea plants which was very nice! I am excited to head back out there one or two more times with Hannah next week.
It's been great to hear about your different projects this week, Ayla. I'm glad you have such a growth mindset around making shifts to your original phone case design -- I am excited to see that final project. Have there been any new walking routes you have discovered over these weeks, or have you found that you are enjoying routes you know and love? Finally, do you know what kinds of birds build their nests in the ground? I'm so curious! Those babies are so cute and tiny!
ReplyDeleteAyla, it's great to read about the various components of your project. I love that you have combined some mindfulness and nature walks with physical work on the form and gaining technical skills while doing work for Glimmer! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and photos in your blog! Wendy
